"The Impossible"

"The Impossible"

10/10

Best Drama of 2012

There are many things that Tori and I have not yet mastered. However, one area we feel we have mastered is the wonderful art of movie watching. Several times a week, the Gilbert's jump into bed, turn the heated blanket to "High" and spend about two and half hours watching a movie. Earlier today, Britton and Heather told us about a movie they highly recommended called "The Impossible".

This movie is about an English family who just so happened to be on vacation in Thailand during one of the most devastating natural disasters in history. Unfortunately, their hotel was located right in the wake of the devastation. When I first watched the trailer for this film I remember thinking it was making an action thriller out of a tragic event. Therefore, I forgot all about it and waited until now to finally watch it.

Going into this movie, I had expected a good thriller. However, when I came out of it, I looked at the world around me a little differently. When I was young, I remember hearing about the Tsunami that hit South East Asia and looking at before and after pictures on my computer. I definitely remember feeling sorry for those people on the other side of the world but my life continued on as normal when I walked away from my computer and turned off the TV.

This movie should be taken out of the "Thriller" or "Action" category and instead be placed in the "Drama" genre.  When I think of an action flick, I think of Bruce Willis or The Transformers. This was certainly not that type of movie. The only thing "Impossible" about this movie would be for anyone to walk away and have their life continue on as normal. And that is why this movie is the Best Drama of 2012.

A few years ago, I was serving a mission in Taiwan. I was sitting in an internet cafe in Taipei writing home to my family when I heard snoring over the loud music. It took all of 30 seconds to find the source... enjoy.
